I am a coffee drinker and I prefer french press coffee. I have now become a fan of the GSI Outdoor JavaPress. This little french press makes excellent coffee.

You already know that the very best smells that you can smell in the morning, while you are camping, are bacon smells and coffee smells. And there are few things better than sipping a hot cup of coffee on a brisk outdoor morning.
In the past, I have skipped bringing my french press on climbing trips because I used the Bodum French Press — it is glass. I have broken 2 Bodum French presses in my house – with regular use. One was broken in the sink during washing. The other tipped over (empty) and the glass broke.
Flawless Functionality
All of the coffee pours out of the JavaPress.
I can pour that last bit of coffee out — that quarter of a cup that sits underneath the plunger. All I have to do is bring the plunger back up just a fraction of an inch and that last bit of coffee pours out easily.
My experience with the Bodum — when I pour out the coffee — the last quarter cup of freshly brewed heaven just sits under the plunger, trapped. It takes a lot of patience to get every last drop. And when I have moved the plunger, some grounds inevitably escaped.
The GSI JavaPress plunger works perfectly and way better than the Bodum.
The Carafe That Will Not Break
The GSI Outdoor JavaPress Carafe is BPA-Free plastic that won’t break. The official labeling states: “shatter resistant.” You can have confidence that a tumble, bump, or drop won’t derail your coffee drinking plans. Sure, the carafe doesn’t claim to be indestructible.
Travels Easily
You can pack the GSI Outdoor Javapress in your camping kitchen kit without worry. Remember that I did not even consider taking my Bodum with me. That Bodum glass is thin and fragile.

Jason’s Best Way To Make French Press Coffee
1, Start with your favorite coffee beans.
Right now, my favorite beans are Trader Joe’s House Brand and their Ethiopian.
For slightly less than 30 oz of water, I put in 4 gently rounded Tablespoons of grounds. [You can adjust based on your preferences.]
2. Don’t boil your water. French press is best at 200 degrees.
3. Brew for exactly 4 minutes…and ENJOY!
