GSI Outdoor JavaPress 30 Review

February 3, 2016 by Jason Clements

GSI Outdoor JavaPress 30I am a coffee drinker and I prefer french press coffee.  I have now become a fan of the GSI Outdoor JavaPress.  This little french press makes excellent coffee.

If you love to drink coffee on your climbing, camping, or hiking adventures; I highly recommend purchasing the GSI Outdoor JavaPress.  I have the 30 ouncer.  GSI make a 50 ouncer – for those of you who LOVE coffee.  And they also make a 20 ouncer with a cool little cup that comes as a package deal.

  • Flawless Functionality
  • Won’t break
  • Travels Easily
  • Coffee In Any Season Outside and at Home – (and will probably last for years)

GSI Outdoor JavaPress for Rock Climbing TripsYou already know that the very best smells that you can smell in the morning, while you are camping, are bacon smells and coffee smells.  And there are few things better than sipping a hot cup of coffee on a brisk outdoor morning.

In the past, I have skipped bringing my french press on climbing trips because I used the Bodum French Press — it is glass.  I have broken 2 Bodum French presses in my house – with regular use.  One was broken in the sink during washing.  The other tipped over (empty) and the glass broke. Backpacker Puck Flavors

Cherry Chocolate Made for the Ozark Highlands Trail (OHT),

This is the bar that started it all. Made with dried tart cherries and a specific blend of nuts and other ingredients. If you like almond butter then you’ll love this bar because it’s got a heaping helping of it. This almond butter is made with just one ingredient and that’s almonds. It’s sure to satisfy your hunger on or off the trail.

Peanut Butter Banana

Made with dehydrated bananas, this bar combines everything you love about banana bread and kicks it up a notch by adding real peanut butter. That’s right, only peanuts go into our peanut butter. We just figured you wanted the real taste of peanuts in your peanut butter, so that’s all you get. The chocolate chips compliment the whole product by giving it that extra kick.

Apple Spice

Made with a proprietary blend of spice, this bar will make you want to eat it hot or cold. Watch out for the chunks of real dehydrated granny smith apples. They’re sure to make your mouth water for some apple pie. Let’s not forget about the peanut butter and chocolate chips, which surprisingly complements this one of a kind apple trail bar.

Brew A Better Cup Of Coffee At Home And Outside

November 22, 2015 by Jason Clements

Jake GwinnThis is a guest post by Jake Gwinn.

Question:  What kind of person keeps a coffee tasting journal?

Answer:  A coffee expert.

Jake Gwinn is a coffee expert.

HCRB:  Why should anyone listen to you about coffee?

Jake:  I have worked in several different coffee shops over the course of 5 years and have gone through several coffee training courses — that’s in addition to the training I received while working in coffee shops. Nowadays I mostly roast my own beans and experiment with different brewing methods.Jake Gwinn Coffee Expert

HCRB:  What is one thing that everyone can do, right now, to brew a better cup of coffee?

Jake:  Stop getting your coffee at the grocery store! These days there are local roasters all over the place. Finding better or fresh beans is the first step in the right direction. Not only are you getting a better bean, but you are getting a finely crafted product that is supporting your local businesses. If you don’t have a local roaster, a lot of roasters make it possible to order freshly roasted beans online. Good beans are the best step you can take right now.
