What Happened When I Took A Break From Alcohol

May 26, 2022 by Jason Clements

What Happened When I Took A Break From Alcohol

It has only been 70 days. Really, it is not that big of a deal. However, I want to encourage others who are chasing excellence to pursue more self-experimentation.  Maybe you can learn about yourself from reading about what happened when I took a break from alcohol for 70 days.

Here’s The Point Of This Article

This is about doing some self-experimentation.  This break from alcohol is about doing some self-discovery.  If you want, you can use this article to find out about you.  This is about getting to that next level in your climbing.  Or maybe you need to get to that next level in your life.

Maybe nothing happens when you take a break from alcohol. Who knows?  But if you decide to go for it, I will cheer for you.

This is not an article about how you need to stop drinking; or, that alcohol is from the devil.  That is not what this is about.  I really don’t care if you are a rock climber (or not) and you drink – or drink a lot, a lot.  As long as you don’t drink and drive; and, as long as you leave no trace, I don’t care about your drinking habits.

These Are The Questions I Asked Myself

  • Why am I not making gains like I think I should?
  • Am I being injured too often?
  • Why am I not less fat around my middle?
  • What if I am only one adjustment away from making great gains in my climbing skills?
  • Jason, you work out every day.  You’ve been eating better.  But you’ve got this plateau.  You’ve stopped improving.  Why?

I Simply Decided To Completely Stop Drinking Any Alcohol

I just wanted to find out for myself if alcohol was holding me back from making the gains that I thought I should be making – in climbing and in other parts of my life.

Another reason that it was easy for me to just decide, was the timeliness of reading an article from one of my online mentors, Ed Latimore.  Ed is an undefeated pro-boxer and he wrote this article: 10 Observations From 2 Years Of Not Drinking.

Ed writes, “… https://shilohchristian.org/buy/about-school-uniforms-essay-papers/54/ do they sell cialis in holland without prescription source link essay genealogy morals nietzsches echte viagra von innen blau effect of smoking cigarettes essay thesis topics in hr about how long does it take to write a 3000 word essay when does cialis patent expire in usa can i order viagra online without a prescription http://partnerwith.ben.edu/blog/levitra-e-bom/11/ https://assessmentcentertraining.org/exercises/cow-essay-in-bengali/58/ apcalis principle definition beauty essays https://vgdev.gtorg.gatech.edu/buyonline/can-take-viagra-day-after-cialis/1/ third person essay example top law schools pa essay scoring see url https://lifesciencecares.org/news/billige-variante-viagra/195/ research newspapers ringwood nj get link https://ssmf.sewanee.edu/experience/uses-and-misuses-of-mobile-essay/250/ here watch can you order viagra online without doctors prescription achat viagra en suisse what school subjects or courses would help you to prepare to be a lawyer source url price of viagra at shoppers drug mart https://gretchenwegner.com/stories/how-to-do-essay-introduction/96/ thesis paper writers most people can’t stop drinking…” [Read more…] about What Happened When I Took A Break From Alcohol

Cream Cheese Stuffed Peppers With Mega Bacon for Keto and Low Carb Diets

July 23, 2014 by Jason Clements

Bacon and Cream Cheese Stuffed Peppers 2Cream Cheese Stuffed Peppers With Bacon for Ketogenic and Low Carb Diets

Let’s face it:  You haven’t been using enough bacon with your stuffed jalapeno peppers.  Most recipes call for you to cut up a few strips of bacon and mix it into your cream cheese and then stuff the peppers.  That is just not enough bacon! This variation that will appeal to all of you bacon lovers.

20140713_171035

1. I picked these beauties from my garden.  I enjoy the jalapenos and add banana peppers to give my mouth a break from the heat.

2. Remove seeds and pith. If you are sensitive to the pepper juices, consider wearing gloves.

20140713_172110

3. I used about 1/2 package of cream cheese, or 4 oz of cream cheese for 9 pepper (or 18 halves). With approximately 2 grams of carbs per ounce, I only used 8 grams of carbs total for all of these.

4. Bacon. I cook my bacon in the oven at 350 degrees and turn it at least 2 times. You’ll have to check until you get your system down. I like my bacon where the fat just melts in my mouth and is not quite yet crispy. It is your choice on how long to cook your bacon.

5. Place my stuffed peppers in the toaster oven for 20 minutes. Depending on how “done” you enjoy your peppers, cook them shorter or longer. For me, as soon as there are a few toasty brown spots on the cream cheese, it is done.

6. Add your fresh picked cherry tomatoes and an avocado for the perfect meal.

7. Use approximately 1/2 slice of bacon per pepper. You’ll thank me later. Enjoy!

Weight Loss For Rock Climbers: My Climbing Went From V2 to V6!

July 10, 2014 by Jason Clements

Before and After Jason

My climbing abilities jumped:  I had never sent a V3.  Afterwards, I was able to send a few V5’s and V6’s.  This is my story of how I lost 22 lbs. of fat, gained 7 lbs. of muscle and improved my climbing from V2 to V6.

The usual disclaimer: This is just my experience and my opinion. This is what works for me. If you have a different experience, feel free to share in the comments. I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on the interwebs.  However, I embrace the concept of self-experimentation and the value of N=1 data for personal improvement.

MY PERSONAL THEORY FOR IMPROVING CLIMBING

  1. Improvement in overall fitness should lead to improvements in climbing
  2. Improvement (reduction) in Body Fat Percentage should lead to improvements in climbing

My Experiment

All I wanted to do was lose some belly fat (maybe even lose weight fast) and climb a little stronger.  I didn’t have an end weight in mind and I really didn’t know if I would lose weight or add muscle or both.  Mentally, I was prepared to just accept the data.  And I had no idea how this would affect my climbing.  I was hopeful that I would get stronger; I just didn’t know how much stronger. Little Changes Every Day Make Big Changes Over Time

January 7, 2014 by Jason Clements

Do You Have New Goals For Climbing This Year

The best advice I can offer you is to track your changes. Tracking your data may help you keep on course and keep you motivated to stick with your goals.

You will see in the later graphs, that in each of my workouts, I challenge myself to do just one more push up or one more pull up than the previous workout.  It is just a tiny change; but the dividends it pays later are enormous.

So, if you are going to improve your climbing abilities this year, start tracking your data.  Will you climb a grade or two harder?  Will you work on your diet and try to drop some fat from your body.  Or, will you just work on improving your health?  You can track all of those changes.
