Climbing Holds, Routesetting, Home Walls Jeremy DowsettLadies and Gentlemen, please meet Jeremy Dowsett.

HCRB:  What is the last good book you read?

Jeremy:  “Anthony Bourdain: Kitchen Confidential” as I like to cook and I just binged watched Anthony’s show: The Layover.

On the climbing front I just re-read “Fall of the Phantom Lord: Climbing and the Face of Fear” which is a great read by Andrew Todhunter.  It is about the risks of climbing and about one of my favorite climbers, Dan Osman.

HCRB:  Favorite way to relax?

Jeremy:  Cooking and hanging with my girlfriend and my “wolfpack” (I have three cats)

HCRB:  What is the last thing you googled?

Jeremy:  Camera equipment…again.

HCRB:  Why is your nickname Noodles?

Climbing Hold Review LogoJeremy:  That’s an interesting one; most people don’t realize that I’m actually a Senior Level Designer by trade.  Basically, I make video games as my 9-5 and Climbing Hold Review was just a side project that I started many years ago. I work for Ubisoft in Montreal and have made a bunch of games that some people might recognize… Assassins Creed / Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory / Far Cry: Primal to name a few. Free Music and Movie Friday: Nina Caprez Climbs in TUZGLE

November 26, 2011 by Jason Clements

Tuzgle is the best short film that I have ever purchased.  Running at just over 20 minutes, this climbing-full flick just doesn’t stop. It is French with English subs; but that does not take away from the flow of the story or the absolutely beautiful cinematography. What a breathtaking landscape! I thought I wanted to go to Tuzgle, Argentina until I looked at the location on Google Maps.

I’ll give Tuzgle 4 out of 5 stars.  I wonder why the producers only made it 21 minutes long.  It looks like there was enough rock in Tuzgle to make a feature film.  And with 22 year-old rock climbing sensation, Nina Caprez as the star of the show, where could the producer go wrong?

My only beef with the film is that the language in not kid-friendly.  There is one f-bomb and a couple of sh##’s so look out on the subtitles.  You may be okay if you don’t speak French and your kids aren’t super fast readers.

Baraka Films produced Tuzgle and it is worth owning.  Even if you don’t read French, you can purchase Tuzgle at their website www.barakafilms.com.  It is only 5 euros (approx. $6.70 as of 11.30.2011).

Here’s the trailer:

Free Music and Movie Fridays: The Swiss Account

July 22, 2011 by Jason Clements

I have been a long-time fan of Jon Glassberg and Carlo Traversi. They put up excellent climbing videos through their production company Louder than 11 www.LT11.com.

By far, The Swiss Account is their best production to date. It is an hour long climb-fest with stunning visuals, smooth transitions, and climbing – YES – tons and tons of climbing.

Some of my favorite parts:

  • Carlo running up the 6B “Never Ending Story Slab” in his 510 approach shoes
  • Horsegiving
  • “Aren’t you sponsored by Prana?” Question to Paul Robinson about his pants.
  • The Track “Blue Skies” The Flux Pavilion Dubstep Remix

THE BIGGEST positive of the movie is that they chose to “beep” out the swearing. They made it kid friendly. Nice job, guys! It makes it way easier to invite my kids (12, 10, and 6) to watch it with me. It is fun to watch my kids get psyched and see their hands get sweaty just by watching a movie.

If you are super strict, there is a scene where the group visits a monastery and, for some unknown reason, flip the bird. Also, be aware that when they climb in Chironico, you may want to turn down the soundtrack for a short while – the track in the backgroud is “B*tch, betta’ have my money…”

Overall, I give the Swiss Account 5 out of 5 stars. It is FREE. There is a story. We get to know the climbers a little better. The flow of the movie is smooth. The scenery is spectacular. There is ample climbing. And they made it kid friendly by “beeping” out the swear words. It is a must-watch movie.

Watch it here. Then, go to the www.LT11.com site and download it for free!
