CONFIRMED: Voodoo Flossing Helps Climbing Injuries

September 7, 2015 by Jason Clements

It is confirmed:  Voodoo flossing helps climbing injuries.

My article “Why All Climbers Should Experiment With Voodoo Flossing” is being discussed in the UK Bouldering Forum.  It was quickly obvious that many, if not all of the climbers were experiencing positive results with Voodoo Flossing.  Most stated that finger injuries were improving.  Others stated that elbow and shoulder injuries were also helped.

“…good feeling results.”

“…went from limited range of motion to full range of motion with no pain.”

“…the niggling feeling near my A2 is pretty much gone.”

“…results are remarkable.”

And this one is my favorite comments because the writer first states on August 13th:

“I did it on the hour all day yesterday and my tweaky finger just feels more agitated.”

Details For Making The Best Car Camping Pizza

Coleman Stove is better for Car Camping PizzaStove Selection:

It makes sense to me to use the Coleman stove instead of my Snow Peak pocket stove. The Coleman stove has a larger and more stable surface to accommodate a larger pan.  It is a balancing act to use a big pan over the Snow Peak or Pocket Rocket.  I am not saying that it is not possible to use a small stove.  You just need a flat, solid surface so you don’t knock over your pan.

September 1, 2015 by Jason Clements

Mt. YoteiMeet Craig Muderlak.  He is an artist.  He is an outdoor enthusiast.  If you read Alpinist Magazine, you will see him in this most recent Issue 51.  This article is an interview and a gallery.  I hope you enjoy his visually spectacular art as much as I do.  Visit his website to view more of his artwork.

HCRB:  How long have you been a climber?

Craig:  I have been a climber for about 18 years, since I was 18 years old.

HCRB:  Where are you originally from?

Craig:  I’m originally from Wisconsin, born and raised. I was first introduced to climbing in high school but really began climbing when I went to college in Colorado.Craig Muderlak in the Bugaboos

HCRB:  You heard that calling to the mountains at a young age.  Describe…

Craig:  I remember growing up with a bug for adventure. I was obsessed with snow and would sometimes build snow caves in my backyard and spend the night in them when I was a kid. I associated mountains with adventure and knew that when I grew up that I would move west. [Read more…] about Meet Craig Muderlak: Artist and Outdoor Enthusiast

Meet Gracey Cockram: General Manager at Moosejaw on the Plaza

August 10, 2015 by Jason Clements

Gracey Cockram is the new general manager at Moosejaw on the Plaza.  As most of you know, Paul P. moved to Boulder, Colorado and now manages the Boulder Moosejaw.  Here’s the gal who is now running the show on the Plaza:

Grace Cockram SunshineGet to know Gracey Cockram in 15 seconds:

If I could have a super power it would be:Grace Cockram Glasses
Teleportation. I’m a mom and a GM. Traveling and seeing beautiful places is a passion of mine but the time it takes often limits me.
On Friday nights, all I want to do is:
Yoga, glass of wine/really great beer, and Netflix with the family and a friendly game of Cards Against Humanity.
The last good book I read was:
Sweat Your Prayers by Gabrielle Roth. This book blew my mind with its way to interpret how when we move our bodies it can change our attitude in our everyday lives.
I am super duper afraid of:
Large animals. I grew up in Baltimore and Detroit so I never experienced nature or animals at a young age. As beautiful as I find them, horses scare the life out of me! (And elephants… And giraffes… And bears…. Crap….)
There is no way I would ever eat:
Pickles.. Pickled eggs. Anything pickled. The smell and texture. Eww [Read more…] about Meet Gracey Cockram: General Manager at Moosejaw on the Plaza

Climbing Injuries Solved: Book Review

August 8, 2015 by Jason Clements

Climbing Injuries Solved BookIs the book Climbing Injuries Solved by Dr. Lisa Erikson the book that is going to help you finally become healthy, finally get over that injury, finally help you feel strong?  Well, let’s just see what we see.

The first thing I really like about the book is that Dr. Erikson uses my phrase:

Don’t Be An Idiot

She uses that phrase inside the context of, “If what you have been doing to heal yourself has not been working well enough to achieve the above needs, it’s time to reinvent your strategy and find the areas in which your self-care has failed.”

The “needs” she refers to as being the “gold standard that we are all working toward” are:

  • Muscles should be smooth with no knots or sore spots
  • No pain when pressing on any tendon
  • No pain on or between joints
  • Full flexibility of fingers, wrists, elbows, and shoulders without fear of injury

The Super Quick Summary

There is a tear-off bookmark attached to the back cover.  It has a 5 point summary.  Is recovery from an injury as simple as taking action on these 5 points? [Read more…] about Climbing Injuries Solved: Book Review
