Hobo Hammock vs Eno Hammock Reviewed Side by Side [Video Post]

Hobo Hammock vs ENO Hammock Reviewed Side by Side

This video outlines the basic advantages and disadvantages of both brands. This Hobo Hammocks vs ENO video will give you some good guidelines on what to look for when considering your next hammock purchase. Please enjoy the video below: Hobo Hammock vs Eno Hammock Reviewed Side by Side.

  • The ENO comes with a compression strap and the Hobo does not.
  • I don’t like the carabiners that came with my Hobo or ENO hammocks.  I end up using my own locking carabiners.
  • Hobo Hammocks includes hanging straps in their purchase price.  The ENO does not – you have to pay extra with ENO.
  • The Hobo Hammock is bigger than the ENO.  The ENO is truly a one-person hammock.
  • The end of the cord of the Hobo Hammock is finished with a sloppy end.  The end of the ENO cord is neat and crisp.
  • The nylon of both hammocks is similar.
  • Hobo Hammocks supports their community and I really like that about their company.

Compression StrapENO has a compression strap

The ENO comes with a compression strap and the Hobo does not.  Because I use my own carabiners (you’ll see in the next point) I have enjoyed the convenience of clipping my biners to the compression strap of my ENO.  And if you are all about packing your gear down to the smallest possible volume, you might enjoy the ENO better than the Hobo.  It is up to you.

CarabinersHobo Hammock vs ENO Hammock Reviewed Side by Side Carabiners

I don’t like the carabiners that come with either Hobo or ENO. The carabiners that came with my ENO and Hobo have sharp ends. I don’t like either of them. I end up using my own carabiners. (I have not seen the new wire carabiners that come with ENO hammocks now.) [Read more…] about Hobo Hammock vs Eno Hammock Reviewed Side by Side [Video Post]

What Happened When I Took A Break From Alcohol

May 26, 2022 by Jason Clements

What Happened When I Took A Break From Alcohol

It has only been 70 days. Really, it is not that big of a deal. However, I want to encourage others who are chasing excellence to pursue more self-experimentation.  Maybe you can learn about yourself from reading about what happened when I took a break from alcohol for 70 days.

Here’s The Point Of This Article

This is about doing some self-experimentation.  This break from alcohol is about doing some self-discovery.  If you want, you can use this article to find out about you.  This is about getting to that next level in your climbing.  Or maybe you need to get to that next level in your life.

Maybe nothing happens when you take a break from alcohol. Who knows?  But if you decide to go for it, I will cheer for you.

This is not an article about how you need to stop drinking; or, that alcohol is from the devil.  That is not what this is about.  I really don’t care if you are a rock climber (or not) and you drink – or drink a lot, a lot.  As long as you don’t drink and drive; and, as long as you leave no trace, I don’t care about your drinking habits.

These Are The Questions I Asked Myself

  • Why am I not making gains like I think I should?
  • Am I being injured too often?
  • Why am I not less fat around my middle?
  • What if I am only one adjustment away from making great gains in my climbing skills?
  • Jason, you work out every day.  You’ve been eating better.  But you’ve got this plateau.  You’ve stopped improving.  Why?

I Simply Decided To Completely Stop Drinking Any Alcohol

I just wanted to find out for myself if alcohol was holding me back from making the gains that I thought I should be making – in climbing and in other parts of my life.

Another reason that it was easy for me to just decide, was the timeliness of reading an article from one of my online mentors, Ed Latimore.  Ed is an undefeated pro-boxer and he wrote this article: 10 Observations From 2 Years Of Not Drinking.

Ed writes, “…most people can’t stop drinking…” [Read more…] about What Happened When I Took A Break From Alcohol

The Best Instructional Video for Tying a Guy Line for Your Tent

May 24, 2022 by Jason Clements

Tying a Guy Line for Your Tent

Guy Line Tensioner
Guy Line Tensioner

If you have never set your tent up before, practice a few times at your house.

In the off-chance that you finally roll into your campsite at 2am and it is raining, you will be able to set up your tent without additional stress.

Another camping tip is to always know where your head lamp is; especially if there is any possibility of you arriving at your campsite after dark.

That guy-line tensioner is a life saver because it keeps your tent secure and it keeps a little bit of the wind noise down.

Wind can whip at your tent and wake you up if you don’t secure it properly.  Knowing the basics of tying a guy line for your tent will help you have a more relaxed camping experience.

Step By Step Instructions for Setting Up Your Guy Lines

  • Sort your guy lines and untangle them
  • Use a simple hitch to tie the free end of the guy line to the tent loop
  • Attach the guy line loop to the tent stake
  • Use the guy-line tensioner to keep your tent lines taut
  • In windy environments, check the tensioner DAILY and adjust accordingly

Total viewing time:  3 minutes

Breaking Down Your Tent at the End of Your Trip

  1. If you have dew or rain, allow your tent to dry before packing it up.  If that is impossible, YOU MUST remember to allow your tent to dry when you get back home.  You run the risk of mold and mildew if you pack away a wet or damp tent.
  2. While the tent is still assemble, open one door and pick up the tent.  Shake your tent vigorously to cause any sand, dirt, or debris to fall out of the open door.
  3. Your tent does not need to be rolled up perfectly.  Use the stuff sack.  It literally means for you to stuff your tent in the sack.  Pack it down to the bottom to ensure that the tent, ground cloth, and rain tarp fit.

I use the very affordable Zephyr 2 by ALPS.  It is marketed as a two-man tent, but it works better as a car camping one-man tent.
