When I am hungry, I grab a:
A Banana, you can’t go wrong with a Banana.
All I daydream about is:
Being outside.
If I could only wear one item of clothing, I would put on:
Pants? I think I look funny with a top and no pants.
The only thing on this planet that makes me scream is:
Can this be made up? Because a flying spider would crush my world. Or just spiders.
The only thing thing I need for awesome sleep is:
An extra pillow.
And now, the rest of the interview:HCRB: How long have you been working at Moosejaw and why?
Paul: I have been with Moosejaw for 10 years now. I fell in love with the company my first few months of working here. There are so many reasons why, but the main reason is because of the people I work with and for. Everyday I come to work and work with the most amazing people that have the most positive attitudes towards everything. I could go on about how I love the product, or my store location.
HCRB: What is the best thing that Moosejaw brings to the community?
Paul: I think it is the it is our open and honest personality and passion for people. Not all my staff or (Moosejaw staff) may be experts at everything the outdoors has to offer; but we are all excited to learn more and grow with our customers and community.
HCRB: Remind everyone what kind of discounts and loyalty programs that MJ offers:
Paul: Well If you are a member of KCCC (Kansas City Climbing Club) Moosejaw offers you a 15% off all non-Moosejaw branded items and 25% off the Moosejaw branded stuff!
HCRB: What excites you every morning before you go to work?
Paul: I love hearing about peoples adventures. So I get excited about hearing great stories.
HCRB: How does Moosejaw practice sustainability?
Paul: On a store level we recycle bags and boxes.
HCRB: How do you personally practice Leave No Trace?
Paul: By leaving no trace of course! I follow the “7 D’s of dumping” use biodegradable products when in the woods, and pack everything out.
HCRB: Are you on any special diet or fitness program?
Paul: Nope..but I am sure I should be on one.
HCRB: What are a few of your favorite outdoor activities?
Paul: Climbing, every type of downhill skiing, backpacking, and paddling.
HCRB: What makes an outdoor trip perfect for you?
Paul: Not putting expectations on the trip — just enjoying what may happen. [Jason’s note: I love this answer a lot!]
HCRB: What are three things you take on any trip outside?
Paul: An open mind, rain gear (because it always rains), and my pocket knife.
HCRB: What should a climbers first purchase be?
Paul: Shoes, I think. They are personal, and can make or break a good day of climbing.
HCRB: First weekend (or longer) hiking trip, what is the most important thing to know about your shoes/boots?
Paul: I would say to know how to tie them. But more importantly having good socks to go with your footwear.
HCRB: What about a tip for getting the best sleep possible outside?
Paul: Hands down, you need the right temperature sleeping bag and a good sleeping pad! Both of these keep you from getting too cold and that is the worst.
