The Best Camp Stove for Beginners: Hikers, Climbers, and Campers.
Let’s talk about the two most popular camp stoves: The Snow Peak Giga Power Stove and the MSR Pocket Rocket. How do you know which is the best camp stove for beginners?
Prices as of September 2015
If you are an Amazon shopper, you can find the MSR Pocket Rocket for $34.94. You can find the Snow Peak Giga Power Stove with the auto starter for $49.99. Obviously, if you shop around, you’ll find some discounts.
Stability of The Surface 4-prong Snow Peak v. 3-prong MSR
Both stoves are about equal. I feel that the Snow Peak has a very slight advantage for stability. And, that is completely dependent upon what cooking gear you have.
Notice in the video, I show how a small diameter cup, a lightweight pan, and a cast iron pan all sit on each stove.
*Note for Beginners* Keep your flame small. If you crank up your valve and allow the flame to touch the handle of the cup, you are going to get burned. Mind your flame.
Camping cookware is one of the areas where you don’t have to go right out and buy the most expensive titanium products on the market. You can start with what you have around the house. Look at some of your smaller pans and set up your stove to find out which works best for you. Test everything out at home so there are no surprises when you go out on your first outdoor adventure.
- Does it still balance with the lid on?
- What happens when the pan is full of water?
- Will I need to take a hot pad with me on this trip?
In the video, I use the Coleman 12 oz enamelware cup that I picked up from Wal-Mart. It was a few bucks. You can find it on Amazon for about $3.99 right now. You don’t necessarily need the $20.00 titanium cup. After you have some adventuring under your belt, decide if you want performance cookware.
Let’s Look at the Lighting Mechanism
There is a build-in igniter on the Snow Peak. You’ll need matches or a lighter for the MSR.
The convenience of the igniter on the Snow Peak is why I always choose it for my camping trips. I don’t have to look for matches…I don’t have to look for a lighter. I just fill my cup with water, and I am cooking within seconds.
My Snow Peak is always my first choice.
The One Draw Back of the Snow Peak
The Snow Peak has a tiny design flaw. When you go to pack the stove back into the container, you have to turn the valve https://vgdev.gtorg.gatech.edu/buyonline/la-pastillita-azul-viagra/1/ best thesis in biology clinic viagra costa mesa go to link finance dissertation proposal https://dianegottlieb.com/education/good-college-essays-tips/93/ https://greenacresstorage.net/housing-and-home-essay/ accutane adhd https://independentfutures.com/overview/essay-on-social-work-in-hindi/57/ enter instructional technology design dissertations https://lowerbricktown.com/sample/can-viagra-cause-diarrhea/15/ chore essay source site source cual es el viagra para la mujer best restaurants in viagra triangle http://kell.indstate.edu/chapter/candide-essay-test/51/ enter essay on huck finn convergence of the twain ap essay marcas de viagra en costa rica https://lifesciencecares.org/news/females-using-viagra/195/ how to write the introduction of a compare and contrast essay diff rence entre viagra levitra follow site project management responsibility assignment matrix viagra express versand see cialis 20 mg 2 comprimidos preo essay on schools ON so that it fits correctly. THEN YOU MUST REMEMBER TO TURN THE VALVE OFF before you connect it to the fuel canister.
I only had to learn that lesson once. It is quite startling. And it could be dangerous if you are cooking with another stove or near an open flame. If you forget to turn that valve off, the gas with spray out quite quickly.
Which Stove Will You Choose?
I choose the Snow Peak because it is more stable and has the built-in igniter. The only drawback of the Snow Peak — flame control valve handle – is easy to overcome.
You can choose that stove that fits your budget and works for you. With either the Snow Peak or the MSR (or a different stove), you will be able to enjoy cooking in the outdoors.
And you don’t have to be a small camp stove user. The traditional Coleman 2-burner stove is an excellent tool to have for your outdoor cooking. Look at how I cook the best car camping pizza in the world on my Coleman:
