Renan said to ask him 2 or 3 really good questions. I replied: “Here’s to hoping your words inspire many to enjoy a more vibrant and adventurous life!”
At the end of this interview, I’ll link to two of my favorite movies that Renan has made. Spend a few minutes watching to see to what degree you are inspired.
I had the privilege of meeting Renan Ozturk a few years ago. He is, by far, one of the kindest, most easy-going guys I have ever met.
That he took the time to create a unique mountain-scape when he signed his poster shows you what kind of human being he is. And what he wrote on that poster for my kids still speaks volumes even to me:

Renan is on Facebook. He has a constant stream of beautiful images and breath-taking cinematography that often give me great pause. Here is a man who lives his life full of adventure. Oh, that we may all be inspired!
Ladies and Gentlemen, please meet Renan Ozturk. He is an artist, storyteller, cinematographer. You can get to know Renan at little bit better, right here, in 15 seconds:
The last good book I read was… Buddha’s Warriors: The Story of the CIA-Backed Tibetan Freedom Fighters, the Chinese Communist Invasion, and the Ultimate Fall of Tibet by Mikel Dunham
The last adventure film I saw that inspired me was… Line Across the Sky with Honnold and Tommy, part of the Reel Rock Tour this year.
The last time I was shocked with hospitality…what country…what’s the short story? Burma, the northern jungle villages, and their unbelievably welcoming spirit and generosity.
I will never again eat… Rancid camel’s milk
A beautiful place in the world that is surprisingly affordable to visit is…Nepal
HCRB: When life weighs you down (during an expedition or in everyday living), how do you find that spark inside of you to keep going?
Renan: My battery can run pretty low sometimes. Having a restful home is really helpful, but often the spark is reignited every time I get back into the mountains. Expeditions both wear me out, and reinvigorate me, every time.
I think when you are feeling weighed down, you actually have to go back and do the thing again that wore you down in the first place, so long as it was something you loved.
Good coffee helps too.
HCRB: What continues to inspire you to create beautiful art, make breath-taking movies, and travel the world?
Renan: I just enjoy sharing content and stories, it’s a part of who I am and it’s a privilege to bring some of these wild places to everyone.
It’s not like I search for inspiration. I’m a compulsive visual artist, I obsess over stories…it’s in my blood.
HCRB: For someone who hasn’t found their way in life yet, what advice can you give?
Renan: Find a meaningful story, and tell it. Sometimes it’s really close to you and you don’t know it. Sometimes you have to look within yourself or your own family, or your immediate situation. And therein lies something that will inspire and fuel you to evolve on your path–whatever that may be.
My Two Favorite Movies by Renan Ozturk
The Tower of Ennedi. This was the first movie by Renan that I had to keep stopping to look at the images. The storytelling is first rate. The cinematography is absolutely gorgeous. A four-DAY drive…no roads…with only a point on a GPS!
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Down to Nothing. Whoa! This movie by Renan will have your heart soaring. It has scene after scene of unimaginable beauty. I had to stop this one many time to take in the wonderment. The story inside is heart-rending. To come so close to the goal and have to stop…
If you are looking for the Amazon links to support HCRBeta, I’ve decided to do this differently for Renan’s interview. I want to support a cause that is important to him.
Renan has this link in a recent post on his Facebook page:
“Great to see all the diverse projects and different people coming together to help Nepal. Here’s one from AndShesDopeToo where 100% of proceeds from t-shirts are going to One Heart World-Wide, an organization that provides clean facilities for birthing along with pre-natal/post natal care for women and infants in remote villages of Nepal. Check out the unique art for the shirts and please consider supporting!”
