After every trip, you must make certain that your tent is dry. There are three methods for ensuring that your tent is dry:
- You can hang your tent outside on a clothesline on a dry, windy day.
- You can hang your tent in your house over a chair.
- You can throw your tent in a laundry basket.
The Clothesline Method is my preferred method of drying out my tent after every trip. Obviously, there are times when the weather does not allow it; so I string up a line in my basement and hang my tent to dry there.
If you don’t have a clothesline or a place in the basement to string up a line; use one of the other methods to make sure that your tent is dry before hanging it up for the winter.
Keep Everything Together
Don’t break this rule: You must store all tent parts including the tent, rainfly, poles, stakes, guy-lines, stuff sacks together. It would be a disaster to forget some parts of your tent because you stored them some place else, and then forgot to pack them.
